What is the single-screw extruder?

Single screw extruders are the most fundamental and widely used continuous mixing and extrusion equipment in the plastic processing industry.

Single screw extruder can be used for PE pipe extrusion line, PPR pipe production line, PVC garden pipe machine, TPE profile extrusion line, and plastic recycling machine.

Single screw extrusion is defined as a low-cost process used in the polymer industry. This machine is mainly composed of a transmission system, a feeding system, an extrusion system (screw, barrel), a heating and cooling system, a control system, etc. Through the rotation of the screw in the heating barrel, plastic raw materials are conveyed, compressed, melted, homogenized and measured. Finally, a stable and continuous melt is formed through the die head, providing a foundation for subsequent processes such as granulation, film blowing, filament drawing and extrusion.

Working Process:

1. Feed Zone: Solid particles or powder enter from the hopper and are conveyed forward and preheated by the deep screw grooves of the screw.

2. Compression Zone: As the depth of the screw groove gradually shallowens, the material is subjected to intense shearing and compression, and begins to melt under the combined effect of external heat and frictional heat.

3. Metering Zone: The screw channel is relatively shallow and constant, further homogenizing, stirring and metering the already molten material to ensure the uniformity of melt temperature, pressure and composition.

4. Exhaust Zone (Optional - Venting Zone) : (If it is an exhaust type model) Vacuum is applied here to remove moisture, air and volatile substances from the material.

5. Die Forming: The uniform melt is forced through the designed die to form the required shape (such as strips, sheets, tubes).
